Day 31 - Hope

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).
A long time ago, people told and retold the stories of Jesus’ birth, life, death and resurrection. His story changed their lives. It changed the way they lived, the way they thought and the way they treated others. The Christmas story and the story of Jesus can do the same for us today. Hope happened when Jesus was born. Hope still happens today—and we can help make hope real.

Day 31 - Hope

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).
The story of Jesus is a story of hope. It’s the story of how God became human and lived among us. It’s the story of how Jesus lived and died to save everyone from their sins. It’s the story of how Jesus rose again and conquered death. But the story isn’t finished yet.

Day 31 - Hope

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).
Lots of people saw Jesus after His resurrection. They spoke about it and shared it with others. Eventually, people started writing down the miracle they had witnessed. Jesus was dead. Now He was alive! The resurrection led people who loved Jesus to start gathering together. It is because of the resurrection that the early church began.

Day 31 - Hope

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).
Jesus' life was filled with purpose right from the start. He was born to restore the broken relationship humans had with God. From the very beginning, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, God had a plan about how to make things right. Jesus’ birth in a stable, His life of service, His death on a cross and His resurrection was that plan.

Day 31 - Hope

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).
When Jesus grew up, He spent a lot of time teaching people. He would tell stories in towns, on mountaintops and beside the lake. He told stories to small groups of people and large crowds, to rich people and poor people. He also blessed little children who came to visit with Him. Through these stories, Jesus taught the people who He was—the Son of God. He also taught them how to live.

Just Believe

Have you ever wondered what Jesus did when he grew up? Did he become a carpenter like his father? Melbourne-based author and storyteller, David Edgren, has written a book called Just Believe which explores the life of Jesus in delightful detail!

Day 31 - Hope

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).
Some days are full of fun and laughter and joy. It’s like the sun is shining and everything is wonderful. The day Jesus was born was like that. His parents welcomed their precious baby, angels announced His birth to shepherds and wise men followed the star. Other days are filled with sadness and tears and worry. Those days are dark days.

Kids Acrostic

Did you create an acrostic poem about Jesus and Christmas? If so we would love for you to share it with us on Facebook. Ask your parents to upload it for you. #RTB21

Day 31 - Hope

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).
There is such joy when a baby is born. Parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins and friends all celebrate the birth of a precious newborn child. They bring presents, take lots of photos and share the good news with people they know.
The story of a child’s birth is often told over and over again because it is a time of such joy. Joy surrounded the birth of Jesus too.
Today we have a special Christmas message to share with you and we hope it sets the tone for however you might be celebrating and whomever you are sharing the day with.

Day 31 - Hope

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).
Have you been fast asleep in the darkness then someone turned on the light? You probably blinked and maybe even covered your eyes as you adjusted to the brightness that suddenly surrounded you. Perhaps being woken up so suddenly even scared you a little. Maybe that’s what the shepherds experienced that first Christmas when they saw the glory of God.

Day 31 - Hope

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it” (John 1:5).
An angel told Joseph to name the baby Jesus, which means “God is Salvation.” This name was not given just because it sounded nice but because it defined who Jesus was and what He would do in the world. A saviour is someone who gets another person out of trouble—a rescuer, deliverer or protector.

Busy Builders

Jesus was the son of a carpenter and as a child, he possibly made many objects from the offcuts of his fathers work. Have you built anything out of wood? We would love to see your creations and encourage you to share with our community on facebook. #RTB21
